Dutchman Boom Brake Installation & Use

The green arrows and lines show the Primary Line, and the red arrows and lines are the Secondary Line.  The brake grips the Primary Line but is controlled and actuated by the Secondary Line.

Tensioning the Secondary Line pulls the brake case toward the boom, which tensions the Primary Line causing friction within the brake and more grip on the Primary Line.

This is a simple installation, but you can install a block and tackle between the brake and the mast base for better control of the braking.  Dutchman recommends  a 4-1 purchase.

The Secondary line is run to the cabin top where it can be controlled by a clutch etc.

Each end of the Primary Line can be anchored at a chainplate or toe rail.
